Digital Wrapper
A structured text file that links digital object content files and related metadata and specifies the logical relationship of the content files. METS is an evolving XML-based international standard for packaging digital library content. All content files and related metadata can be embedded and saved with the digital wrapper. This is the physical packaging or recording. Or content files and metadata can be stored independently of the shell and referenced by file pointers in the shell. This is a logical wrapper or link. A digital object can participate in both types of packaging.
