It depends on the grater you have. We recently rebuilt the Rotary Greater, so there are two types. If you have a gray handle and two DS, you will need to activate the DS when turning in the opposite direction instead of rubbing the handle. This will remove the handle from the d and allow you to separate the d, the handle and the main body from each other.
When you have a new one with a big ad handle, there is a tab that supports the abrasive handle. You must press the tab to unlock the handle. After pressing the add tab, the handle can slide and it will slide too.
Whatever scraper you have, it only separates the D section, the handle and the main section into three parts.
